Description:

12c stamp, Plate 1 (36), 2 horizontal pairs, and single, used with 3c (11), to Suresnes, France. The stamps are tied by 3 strikes of "Plainfield N.J. Jul. 30" (1857).

There is a Suresnes backstamp clearly dated "13 AOUT 57", which establishes the year date. The cover is reduced about two inches at right into the address.

The 12c stamps are arranged by Positions: 87-88R1, 77-78R1, 67R1.

July 30, 1857 is the Earliest Documented Use of the 12c stamp, perforated.
