Description:

A single 5c Orange Brown (1b-E) "Mower shift" variety, with blue Philadelphia CDS and killer, pays the single letter rate.

This is the only recorded Mower shift in the Orange Brown shade on Cover.

Searches of major auction websites reveals a total of 12 different Mower shifts on or off cover. Four more have come to light recently, as written up in a recent Chronicle article, so there are at least 16 known copies. This one appears to be the only one in the true "early" orange brown color.
