Description: | Folded letter from W.C. Leavenworth, a passenger who traveled on brig Mary from New York City to San Juan del Norte, to son-in-law Henry A. Dreer (seed merchant), to Philadelphia by ship Eudora from San Juan del Norte. Letter entered the U.S.mails May 7 at Galveston, Texas. Twelve cents due. This historic folded letter was written in Nicaragua during the first trip of passengers from New York City bound for the gold fields of California, via the Rio San Juan, Lake Nicaragua, Granada, and the Pacific port Realejo (near Chinandega). |
