Mailed from Rayma Gerringer (aka "Sis"), 147 Kircher Park, Wester (actually "Webster"), NY to Cedric Gerringer, Bradford, PA, R.D. #1 with Scott #807, the ever ubiquitous 3¢ Thomas Jefferson postage stamp from the Presidential Series. The date is cut off but the CDS is from August 22, 194?. This violet Prexie was first issued on June 16, 1938 in Washington, DC, printed by Rotary Press, perf 11 x 10 ½. The 1 ounce first-class letter rate was 3¢ from July 6, 1932 until it was increased to 4¢ on August 1, 1958. Message on tag reads: Dear Skip Here's a dog for you We ate at the "Waldorf" today. Will be seeing you soon Love "Sis" The family I was adopted by, on my father's side, are all originally from Bradford, PA. I spent some time there as a kid but all I really remember is all of the local pride surrounding the Zippo factory. I've also spent a considerable amount of time at the NY State Thruway I-90 rest stop in Webster driving to/from NYC over the years. |
