Description:

Official Mail envelope from the Orange Free State used by British soldier to write home. manuscript "On Active Service - No stamps available" in purple ink across top. Small black rate marking " 5/" at upper left. Blurred black postmark dated June 19, 1900 - ""FIELD P.O. / BRITISH ARMY S.AFRICA" along with red London PAID postmark dated 14 July 1900. Addressed to Mr. Crisswell, Harlow Car, Cherryhint on Rd., Cambridge England. On reverse is a smudged black postmark for Cambridge 16 July 1900, 12 AM.
