3c Red on Buff Nesbitt Entire (U10) uprated to 10c by two 1857-issue 3c Washingtons (#26), and one 1c Franklin, perforated, Ty II position 8R2 (#20).

All are tied by partial blue CDS from CT.

Addressed to: "To the American Consul or Commercial Agent of the U. States" .

It is addressed to Bermuda, and note that the sender initially mistakenly started to note Bermuda as being part of the "West Indies", which it is not. He crossed it out.

This is likely paying the 10c American packet rate to Bermuda. There was British Packet service via Boston->Halifax->Bermuda at this time. For it to be properly pre-paid at that route, it would be a double-rate latter (2x5c), which it does not immediately appear to be.

Stamped covers from the 1847-1861 era to Bermuda are rare.
