American Letter Mail Co. (5c) black (5L2) uncancelled, on folded letter datelined "Norwich Bank, Dec. 5. 1844" to New London, Conn., manuscript "Paid". Letter contents mention one draft enclosed. Ex John Olenkiewicz

In the later part of July and early August of 1844, the American Letter Mail Company established mail service between Norwich and other cities. The Norwich & Worcester Railroad in conjunction with the Norwich line of steamers that docked at Allyn's Point provided a convenient service Boston and New York.  Alternating with that route was a day line service to Greenport, Long Island that joined up with the Long Island Railroad to New York.
