4c chocolate on manila wrapper (W392) registered to Budapest, Hungary from College Station, New York, N.Y. April 11, 1907, upgraded with 1c blue green (300) and 8c violet black (308) both tied by College Station, New York oval cancels, magenta "College Sta., New York, N.Y. Registered Apr. 11, 1907" circular datestamp.  Budapest Apr. 23, 1907 backstamp.

The registry fee was 8 cents, leaving 5 cents for postage of items weighing 8 to 10 oz. Note the manuscript endorsement "Newspaper". This 4c manila wrapper is nicknamed "the horse blanket" due to its large size.  Ex Undersander.

The wrapper has a New York Registry label issued to comply with the 1882 Universal Postal Union resolution requiring international registered mail to have a label or impression of a stamp with the capital letter 'R' in Roman text. The U.S. Post Office chose to use gummed labels which were only applied by those post offices authorized to handle inbound and outbound foreign registered mail. Use of these registry labels occurred between January 1, 1883 and January 24, 1911.
