Description:

Hungary 1898 stereotype 3 kr green, perf. 12 x 11.5 (Gibbons #41a) tied by two strikes of May 5, 1898 Budapest circular datestamp on cover to New London, Iowa, UPU printed matter rate, with corner card of Andreas Saxlehner, Budapest. "Foposta" in datestamp translates as Main Post Office. Stamp has perfin initials SA/HJ.

Andreas Saxlehner owned mineral water springs near Budapest and had the water bottled and sold world-wide under the "Hunyadi Janos" Natural Mineral Water brand name. It was a strongly mineralized natural bitter water known for its medicinal properties and was prescribed by doctors for a number of ailments.
