1899 1c green postal entire overprinted "Philippines." (U1) with "Manila, P.I. Oct. 15 1903" duplex postmark, local use addressed to guest at Universal Hotel, Walled City. Manuscript notation that recipient was not at hotel, and "try Box 609".

The Walled City, or Itramuros, Latin for "within the walls", is the centuries-old historic district of Manila, entirely surrounded by fortifications. It was considered the religious and educational center of the Spanish East Indies. Photograph shows Gate of Fort Santiago (constructed 1714) of the Walled City in 1913.
