Bucksport, Hancock County, Maine, is located across the Penobscot River estuary from Fort Knox.  Now a historic site, Fort Knox is located on the western bank of the Penobscot River in the town of Prospect, Maine. The fort was built between 1844 and 1869 and was the first fort in Maine built entirely of granite. Most previous forts used earth, wood or stone.

The East Maine Conference Seminary was a Methodist Seminary and preparation school. Located on Wilson Street in Bucksport, Maine, it educated students from 1848 to 1933.
