Turned cover. 1869 3c ultramarine (114) tied by circular grid cancel with "Orono Me. Dec. 7" (1869) on folded letter with printed address to the Overseers of the Poor, Town of Winterport, Me.  Inside is another address panel franked with 1869 3c ultramarine with grid cancel and "Winterport Me. Dec. 4" circular datestamp, addressed to Post Master, Orono, Me., with printed notice datelined:

"Winterport, Dec. 3rd, 1869, Sir: Accompanying this is a letter of this date, directed to the Overseers of the Poor notifying them John Murphy is not a Resident of this Town, has received and receiving support from this town, at the expense of the town of Winterport. Will you do us the favor to sign one of the certificates below, and thereby inform us of the disposition of our above described letter. Please return this letter by next mail, and oblige. Yours Respectfully, (signed) E.C. Arey, chairman of Overseers of the Poor, Winterport.
P.S. Please date and sign one of the following certificates.
I certify that the letter above described was received at the Post Office in this town by due course of Mail.  (signed) R.C. White for Postmaster. Orono Dec. 6th 1869"
