Postmark: Jun 21, 1873 (Cuba to Argentina with US stamp, mixed franking)

1873 Habana to Buenos Aires via St.Thomas and Rio de Janeiro. Cover (wrapper): on company watermarked paper and with corresponding company blue stamp ‘Sama Sotolongo Y Co, Habana’. Sent from Habana 21 June and received in Buenos Aires on 21 July 1873 (docketed inside). GB 4d pl.13 (Sc#43) and US 10c (Sc#150) stamps applied by sender in Cuba and remained uncancelled till Rio de Janeiro. Spanish steamer of Ramon de Herrera line, based in Habana, (which service was paid in cash) carried the cover outside the mails to St.Thomas, DWI where the cover was entered to the post system. Blue St.Thomas “F.De Aldecoa & Co / St.Thomas, West Indies” carrier stamp applied there. US Brazil Mail Steamship Co ship carried the cover from St.Thomas to Rio de Janeiro. The way was paid by US 10c stamp cancelled by pen in Rio. GB 4p stamp tied by C83 numeral grid of British post office in Rio and served for way from Rio to Buenos Aires by Pacific Steam Navigation Co ship. Addressee name written in violet ink inside the wrapper is partially visible on front (probably sender originally attempted to use the wrapper as a letter starting to write the text inside but then changed his mind). Some aging. Small piece of paper missing on front (at carrier’ stamp place), some scuffs of paper at upper part of the wrapper.
