Austria 1869 2kr yellow postal card with "Adelsberg/ Postojna 7/9, 75" cds to Wien. Wien arrival cds.
Note the "(Slov.)" printed at the lower right corner of card. That is an abbreviation for Slovak, the language spoken in the Adelsberg area. These postal cards were printed in the 18 official languages of the Austrian Empire, depending on what area they were distributed in. "Listnica" is Slovak for Postcard. All these postal cards had "Correspondenz-Karte" (German: Postcard) at top.
Postojna (German: Adelsberg) is a town in the traditional region of Inner Carniola, 35 kilometers (22 mi) from Trieste, in southwestern Slovenia. |
