"Charleston S.C. Feb. 6" circular datestamp ties 1851 3c dull red type I (11) on buff cover to University, Virginia, with blue embossed corner card of "Charleston Hotel, D. Mixer, Proprietor, Charleston, S.C." Charleston 30mm postmark type A-25 known used from 1856-1861.

The Charleston Hotel was built in 1839 at 200 Meeting Place, Charleston, S.C. It was designed by architect Nathaniel E. Potter, and was described as a striking structure, with Parthenon-style facade denoting architecture of the Greek Revival period.
