"Thomaston Ga. Feb. 27" (1861) circular datestamp on 3c red on white Star Die postal entire (U26) with grid cancel. Addressed to "Col. O(bediah). C. Gibson, Griffin, Ga." Gibson served as Captain in Scogin's Battery, Georgia Light Artillery (Griffin Light Artillery). Griffin Light Artillery was organized at Griffin, Georgia, in May 1862. It was attached to the department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida and served on the Georgia coast and in the defence of Savannah. Ex-Hill and Crouch. Confederate use of U.S. postage, signed by John L. Kimbrough.
