Excerpt: " I have been to St. Joseph to process the shipment of your Cotton I found however that freight had risen there as well as at Orleans and at the other ports on the Gulf, upon the presumption that you were having sufficient supplies from other sources of that when the early ships should return from Europe rates would decline. I concluded that I should but consult your interest by storing the Cotton waiting for a more favorable period to ship. I hope that this course will meet your approval. If otherwise please advise me by Express Mail & the cotton shall be forwarded immediately."
