"Clinton Tex. Mar 2" (1861) circular datestamp on 3c red on buff Star Die postal entire (U27) with pen cancel, to Gonzales, Texas. Very rare use.

The Ordinance of Secession in Texas took effect on this date, March 2, 1861. Texas was admitted to the Confederacy three days later. Thus the period of use of U.S. stamps in Texas as an Independent State lasted only three days.
