Description:

Official business envelope originating from the Admiralty offices in Somerset House, London England. Addressed to a prominent Baptist minister - Rev. L.C. Stevens. Initial postmark is red circle, topped with the royal crown and marked PAID / 21 SP 21 / 1855" Liverpool handling postmark dated 22 SP (1855). Large red rate postmark "48" indicating a double weight letter with an additional red postmark "10 / PAID" and a small enclosed "X", also in red. Two different red Boston Massachusetts postmarks - one "PACKET / BOSTON" - the other "BOSTON / PAID" with smaller "Br Pkt" inside. Both postmarks dated 11 OCT (1855). In addition there is a small straight line "PAID" in red. Small tears and rips overall - no visible markings on the reverse.
