"Overton & Co.'s City Mail Office 3 Broad Street." red oval on folded letter datelined "Providence Jany 2 1845" to street address in New York. Ex Herman Toaspern.

According to Calvet Hahn, an advertisement in the December 10, 1844 issue of Courier & Enquirer, New York, stated that Overton & Co. had established a city mail delivery service every hour, south of Chambers, Frankfort and Dover Streets. Boxes were provided at "the Journal of Commerce Office and all the principal hotels and buildings in Wall Street." Letter postage was 2 cents, while stamps were $1.50, presumably per hundred (see Scott no. 46L1). A February 15, 1845 advertisement in the New York Daily Express announced the new company name, "The City Mail Company."
