3c Star Die on buff (U27) with blue "Middlebury Vt. 29 Mar 1861" cds and matching grid cancel, to Syracuse, N.Y. With original letter.

The black "2" handstamp might be indicative of a numbering system used by Syracuse post office indicating the start of the one week holding period before advertising unclaimed letters. These advertising lists appeared in the local newspaper only weekly and that the "clock starting running" only once a week for all letters, such as this example.
