Description:

"Steam Boat" (52 x 5mm) marking tying 3c dull red type III (#26) on cover addressed to post office box in Cleveland, Ohio. Contents include original letter datelined "Detroit July 6th 1858", and Western Union Telegram.

This Steamboat marking was applied by the Cleveland post office, where it had entered the mails after being carried by a non-contract steamboat on Lake Erie. Same correspondence as Cover ID 28356.
