Description:

Austrian Post Offices Abroad. Austria 5 kr. red (Michel 3/I) used on 1868 folded letter sheet from Belgrade to Triest, suberbly tied by "Belgrad 11/12" cds struck in black (Tchilinghirian figure 665). Reverse with Pest transit cds (15/12 68) and Triest arrival (15/12) cds.

Docketing reads "Messr. Vas Kohanovic, Belgrado 10 Decbr 1868, Rei (Rec'd) 15 Decbr, Riap (answered) 15 Decbr

At that time Belgrade was part of the Principality of Serbia, an autonomous province of the Ottoman Empire. This Belgrad postmark is listed in "Austrian Post Offices Abroad" by Simon Dicran Tchilinghiran, W.S.E. Stephen and Keith Tranman, Eight Volumes, published by the Austrian Stamp Club of Great Britain (1962).
