Demonetized use of Scott's US #26. Tied to cover with Havre de Grace cds dated Oct 17 1862 and addressed to Mrs. George Kies at West Killingby CT. Marked by postmaster with manuscript "Due 3". Sent by her husband, 1LT George Kies, Co. K, 18th Connecticut Infantry. His company had been stationed at Havre-de-Grace since August 30th 1862 and remained there until early 1863. Later captured at the battle of Winchester VA June 15 1863 and sent to Libby Prison at Richmond VA. Escaped but recaptured soon afterwards. Paroled in December 1864.
