Description:

This is a Charles Pink and Marcus Silverberg patented envelope (June 3, 1873 -Pat 139,475). The back of the envelope identifies Baughman Brothers as agents who were located at 1347 Main St. in Richmond Virginia. Contents of the envelope was sent by Captain John W. Haseltine who was a renowned coin dealer/auctioneer in Philadelphia. The Captain was assigned to Company B of the Pennsylvania 2nd Cavalry during the civil war. John Mills Hale was an important coin and autograph collector and the recipient of the registered envelope. The right of the cover has a faint purple rubber stamp “JOHN W. HASELTINE” “1225 CHESTNUT STREET” “PHILADELPHIA PA” “WHO WILL ATTEND TO ALL BIDS SENT”. The envelope surely completed a transaction between two well-known numismatists

The 1875 date is based on Haseltine moving from Walnut St. to 1225 Chestnut St. Baughman Bros were located at 1317 E Main St. and 1347 Main St. dates unknown
