Description:

10c chocolate on white Plimpton issue postal entire (#U189) with purple "Fremont Sta., Seattle, Wash. Registered" cds and target cancel, to Terre Haute, Indiana. "Terre Haute Ind. Rec'd Mar 18 1905" backstamp.

Paid the 2c letter rate plus 8c registration fee = 10c.
This entire bears watermark 7, which was used from 1886-1890.

Sender was John Zug of Fremont, Washington, an early stamp collector and later a well-known rare coin dealer. He began to collect stamps as a child. He had a fine stamp collection which was sold at auction in 1907. For short biography of John Zug see Cover ID 24305. Evidently this cover was posted shortly before Zug relocated to Alaska later in 1905 to work as a civilian contractor building roads.
