July 1864: Huntley Grove, Illinois to a soldier at Memphis, which was captured on 6 June 1862 by the Union Army.

Edwin Gilbert enlisted in Company I of the 95th Illinois Infantry on 11 August 1863, and was mustered out as First Sergeant of the company on 17 August 1865. The regiment had left Memphis and engaged the Confederates on 10 June 1864 in the battle of Brice’s Crossroads near Baldwyn, Mississippi, resulting in a Confederate victory. This cover reached Gilbert after the regiment’s return to Memphis.
