Austria Offices in Crete. 1908 issue 10 centimes carmine rose on buff (Higgins & Gage no. 7) with "Smyrna Osterr. Post 27.XI.12" cds to Bristol, Great Britain. Merchant's oval handstamp "Robert Cramer, Smyrna".

Smyrna (then part of the Ottoman Empire) was a Greek city dating back to antiquity located at a central and strategic point on the Aegean coast of Anatolia. Since 1930, the modern city located there has been known as Izmir, and is part of Turkey. Austria administered post offices in Smyrna and other major cities in the Ottoman Empire until the outbreak of war in 1914.
