1917 Belgian internee in Holland cover. "Legerplaatz Bij Zeist 19. III 17" cds on censored cover endorsed "Belgian Prisoner of War", to Waterloo, Iowa. Purple two-line handstamp "No charge for Prisoner/ of War Mail New York, N.Y."

When Antwerp fell to the Germans on October 10, 1914, part of the Begian Army fled to neutral Holland, where the soldiers were interned for the duration of the war. This cover from "Legerplaatz Bij Zeist", one of the main internment camps, is therefore actually not a "Prisioner-of-War", but an "Internee" cover. It was mailed by a Belgian soldier in Barracks 24, Camp I, on March 19, 1917, and addressed to Waterloo, Iowa.
