Description:

CSA stampless cover postmarked AUGUSTA, GA, JUN 5, with matching PAID 5 sent to D.B. Jones, Care Capt. Platt, Clinch Rifles, 5th Regiment, Ga Volunteers, Pensacola, Fla. Donald Bruce Jones, Private May 11, 1861. Appointed Sergeant. Elected 2d Lieutenant of Co. D, 2d Battn. Ga. Sharpshooters June 21, 1862; 1st Lieutenant June 22, 1864. Wounded at Atlanta, Ga. Aug 1, 1864 Captured at Macon, Ga. Apr. 20, 1865. The orginal 3 page letter accompanies cover. Letter was written by the soldiers brother from Augusta, Ga. on June 5, 1861. Donald's brother mentions in detail how some of the town's people sold out before fleeing up north. Letter also mentions troops passing through town i.e. Zouaves from New Orleans. "They were quite a show".
