[Wreck of the Steamer "Algoma"], "Recovered from wreck of the steamer ALGOMA, burned at the wharf at St. Louis, on the morning of the 29th July, 1849. Said boat had a large California mail - a large portion of which was entirely destroyed, JNO. M. Wimer, PM"  label of the St. Louis postmaster Wimer on reverse of good trail letter written by George Abbott dated 15 miles East of Fort Laramie, letter mentions "direct your letetrs to Sutter's Fort" and describes trail conditions.

letter had entered the mails at St Louis with their "Steam 10" handstamp and was in a mail bag with contract mail letters to the East when the fire happened, shows fire damaged but is not brittle or fragile, this is the only known full letter with an Algoma wreck label and is from a new find, there are also two known covers
