3c red on white Star Die postal entire with "Cleveland O. Mar 20 1861" 33mm duplex postmark with grid cancel, to Princeton, Bureau County, Ilinois.

The post office in Princeton, Illinois was established in 1833.  During the time of slavery, Princeton was a stop on the Underground Railroad at the home of Owen Lovejoy, a leader of abolitionists in Illinois. Lovejoy condemned slavery and assisted runaway slaves in escaping to freedom.
