The Aurora Mills, Marion County, Oregon post office was established 30 Dec. 1857, and closed 30 Dec. 1894. The earliest known postmarks from this town are manuscript, such as this, and date from 1863 to 24 Feb. 1869. For another early Aurora Mills manuscript postmark see Cover ID 20647.

Aurora Mills was named for the daughter of Dr. Wiliam Keil, who founded a colony of German settlers and served as the first postmaster. Until Dr. Keil's death in 1877, all property in the community was collectively owned.
