Confederate Use of U.S. Postage, 3c red on buff Star Die postal entire (#U27) with "Carrollton Miss. Mar. 1 1861" circular datestamp, to New Orleans. Carroll Hoy & Co. correspondence. Mississippi was admitted to the Confederacy on February 2, 1861.

Carrollton was developed as the county seat and trading center for rural Carrollton County, Mississippi, which was devoted to cotton agriculture and plantations in the antebellum era. The town is located in central Carroll County, within the Mississippi Delta, on the south side of Big Sand Creek, a tributary of the Yalobusha River.
