Jan. 12, 1918 use on AEF soldier’s letter with APO 2 postmark (no year date in dial, used only 2 weeks in January). Air Signal Service Officer Reserve Corps. (A.S.S.O.R.C.) serving in France. Square base censor “5”. Soldiers’ letters were not charged regular postage, but presumably Special Delivery service was extra. Rare – perhaps unique? – use of Special Delivery stamp on AEF mail from Europe. (Envelope damaged, stiffener glued inside.) Boston 4 pm Feb. 7 receiving stamp and 4 pm Hotel Bellvue time stamp on reverse.
