1836-39 era Express Mail cover, rated at 75 cents unpaid, which was allowed until October 31, 1837. Postmarked with South Glastenbury with attached rate device with 25 cent rate crossed out and re-rated at 75 cents. Entered the Express Mails in New York City or NJ, traveled south to Washington, DC then west as far as Terre Haute, Indiana where it entered the regular mails. Scarce use along the western route, which was operational for only 7 months.
