Elsfleth is a small town with harbor and docks in the district of Wesermarsch, Lower Saxony, Germany.  It is situated at the confluence of the Hunte with the Weser, on the left bank of the Weser, on the railway Hude-Nordenhem.

Based on the transit markings on this cover, the first leg of the trip was from Liverpool to London, then across the Channel to Ostend, Belgium, and then by train through Belgium to Verviers (the usual route in 1868), and then to Aachen (French: Aix-la-Chapelle) where it entered the German postal system to Bremen, then to Elsfletch.  Routing information courtesy of John Barwis and Andrew Reid.
