"Kouns Line/ Str. Navigator/ Leaves Tuesday/ G.L. Kouns & Bro. 59 Common St." green 58 x 16mm handstamp, Milgram No. 975, on 3c pink on buff postal entire (#U59) to New Orleans.  Carroll, Hoy & Co. correspondence. Manuscript directive at left: "Important, Deliver at once".

Milgram lists this marking as known from 1866 and used on the Mississippi and Red Rivers. The Times-Picayune from New Orleans, June 7, 1866 advertises "G.L. Kouns & Bro., General Commission Merchants, Wholesale Grocers and Dealers in Fancy Groceries, Boat and Bar Stores, 59 Common St., New Orleans, Collections, Consignments to Service and Orders to Purchase from the Levee Solicited". The firm is also listed in Gardner's New Orleans Directory of 1866 as "Commission and Forwarding Merchants".
