"U.S. Army Post Office MPES *745* 26 Dec 1918" (type 4101) circular datestamp on picture postcard endorsed "soldier's mail", purple A.1007 circular censor marking (type C-2), to Warren, Pa. Postcard was written on Christmas Day. Censored and signed "O.K. E.D. Sherman, 2nd Lt. 60th Inf."

Postcard is inscribed "La Panne, 1914 - Le Roi et la Reine aux ambulances.", meaning "De Penne, 1914 - the King and Queen at the field hospital."
Depicts King Albert of Belgium and his Queen Elisabeth of Bavaria visiting wounded soldiers. The Belgian royal family lived in De Panne during the First World War because it is located in the tiny fraction of their country that was not occupied by the Germans. The Queen made herself beloved by visiting the front lines and by sponsoring a nursing unit. Despite her German background, she was a popular queen, perceived as eagerly supporting her adoptive country.
