WW1 Soldier's Mail, U.S. 468th Aero Squadron. "U.S. Army Postal Service May 14 1918" duplex postmark (type A2011) on cover with YMCA corner card from "Sgt. E.B. Carlson in 468 Aero Sqdn., American E.F."., to Sheffield, Penna., forwarded to Washington, D.C. Endorsed "Soldier's mail" and with purple circular censor marking A.494 (type C-2). Sheffield Pa.  Jun 2 1918 arrival postmark.

The 468th Aero Squadron was assigned to Issoudun Aerodrome, a complex of military airfields in the vicinity of Issoudun, Centre, France. They were used during World War 1 as part of the Third Air Instructional Center, American Expeditionary Forces for training United States airmen prior to being sent into combat on the Western Front. It was at that time the largest air base in the world. The accompanying picture taken in 1918 is of Issoudun Aerodrome Field 3, with Nieuport 23M, 80 HP single seat (solo) fighter aircraft.
