2c carmine Molly Pitcher overprint (#646) tied by "Cambridge Mass Nov 26 1928" machine cancel on cover with printed corner card of Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard College, Cambridge, Mass., to Boston.

This overprinted stamp was issued on Oct. 20, 1928 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth, N.J. fought on June 28, 1778, and "Molly Pitcher" (Mary Ludwig Hayes) the heroine of the battle. As her wounded husband, William Hayes, an artillerman firing a cannon, was carried off the battlefield, Mary Hays took his place at the cannon. For the rest of the day, in the heat of battle, Mary continued to "swab and load" the cannon using her husband's ramrod.

The addressee, Edward Wigglesworth (1885-1945), a Ph.D graduate of Harvard University, was a geologist, mineralogist and Director of the New England Museum of Natural History in Boston. He was later president of the Gemological Institute of America, New England Center in Boston and taught courses there. He was a certified Gemologist and compiled a dictionary of gems and gemology.
