"Providence" 31 x 4mm straight line postmark with manuscript "July 20", manuscript "8" due rate, on green folded cover to "Citizen Mozard, Consul of the French Republic Residing at Boston". Fresh and Very Fine, attractive. Ex Jarrett.

Theodore Charles Mozard (1755–1810), identified in newspapers as an “ancient chief of the Bureau of the committee of Pu[b]lic Safety and Section of Commerce,” was granted his exequatur as French consul for Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island on June 23, 1795. He served until 1799, when he returned to Europe.
