1932 issue 3c purple postal entire (#U436) upgraded with 2c carmine (#634) to pay 5c UPU rate, on cover postmarked Dallas, Texas, Sep 19 1936, originally addressed to U.S. Embassy in London, England. Forwarded to Paris, France to the American Express Co. office there. The Paris office of that express company then applied a label to forward it to their office in Lucerne, Switzerland. After a period of time it was still unclaimed and it was returned to sender, who marked it as received Mar 1 1937.

The cover bears a Swiss unclaimed label, tied by a Lucerne postmark 18 Feb 1937. The Swiss label is inscribed in three languages: German: Nicht abgeholt (Unclaimed), French: Non réclamé (Not Demanded), and Italian: Non ritirato (Not withdrawn). Backstamps from London, Paris and Lucerne, and after it was returned, a New York Feb 26 1937 transit postmark.

The addressee, Rear Admiral Walter Stratton Anderson, U.S. Navy, served as Naval Attaché at the American Embassy in London, England, from March 1934 to February 1937. Anderson was promoted to Rear Admiral in July 1936, two months before this cover was posted.
