Description:

"San Antonio Tex. Sep 8" (1884) circular datestamp on 4c green, die 1, postal entire (#U250) with 10c brown, re-engraved (#209), two 1c gray blue (#206) singles and 2c red brown (#210) pair, all tied by quartered cork cancels, addressed to Magdeburg, Germany, with four German "Post- Amt I, Bremen 1" official seals. This cover is a quadruple UPU rate of 20c.

Reverse has Magdeburg 25. 9. 84 receiving datestamp. Purple "A.D." 14mm circular German postal inspection marking applied in upper left corner across flap.

Magdeburg is the capital city of the state of Saxony-Anhalt,  Germany. Magdeburg is situated on the Elbe River and was one of the most important medieval cities of Europe.

Evidently this cover was received in bad condition at the foreign exchange office of Bremen when it entered Germany, and the postal officials there sealed the torn bottom with official seals. Bremen is a major port in NW Germany on the River Weser, 60 km (37 miles) south from the North Sea.
