3-cent green on cream entire (#U84) and 15-cent yellow orange Continental Bank Note (#163) tied by cork cancel, on circa 1874 registered cover with "Weatherford Tex. May 30" circular datestamp to Alfred, Maine, with manuscript "#46" registry marking. H.B. Shaw correspondence.

"Mr. H.B. Shaw" was actually a woman - Harriet Shaw, a pioneer in the mail order business. She sold patent medicines and notions through extensive advertisements in rural newspapers all over the nation, between 1865 to 1880.

The violet manuscript "3.00" was written by Harriet Shaw to indicate that $3 in cash was enclosed for a patent medicine order. The handwriting matches hers on other similarly marked covers.
