Description: 5-cent green Davis (Scott 1).  Miltary address to Capt C.W. Sears of the 17th Mississipi Regiment, part of the Army of Northern Virginia.  
 
At the First Battle of Manassas in July 1861, Captain C.W. Sears commanded Company G Confederate Guards, of the 17th Mississippi.  This company was composed of men from Marshall County, Mississippi. 
 
The Seventeenth was assigned to the Mississippi brigade ordered organized under Gen. Charles Clark, and commanded by Gen. Richard Grifiith after December 1861.
