Folded letter from Utica, N.Y. to New York, N.Y., manuscript "1" drop letter fee. Privately carried from Utica to New York and dropped off at the post office. Docketed "J.B. Warner May 26 1836". A Joel B. Warner of Utica, Oneida County, N.Y. is listed in the 1840 U.S. Federal Census.

Transcript of letter:
"Messr. Seth Low & Co.,
Enclosed I send you a Draft for the amt. of my Sale
. I shall be down in a few weeks and will thus Call and arrange the Balance.
Yours Very Respectfully,
J.B. Warner
 Utica
May 26th 1836"

This letter is from the well-known Seth Low (1782-1853) correspondence. Low was a pharmaceutical merchant, importer, and owner of a successful shipping firm in New York. He and his family moved to New York in 1829 from Salem, Mass. His son Abiel Abbot Low was a merchant active in the China trade.
