Fort Gaines, Minnesota July 2, 1849 dateline on folded letter that entered the mails down-river at Fort Snelling with their 11 July 1849 manuscript territorial postmark and "10" rate for postage due to St. Louis, extremely fine, ex Kramer

Letter mentions cholera and that the writer is pleased that he did not have to go out with the Red River Expedition. Fort Gaines was very short-lived name for what became Fort Ripley later in 1849.
