1923 issue 2c carmine (#554) tied by Reno, Nev. Dec 27 1925" machine cancel on Official Business eagle design penalty imprinted envelope to Boston, Mass. Corner card of "Department of Commerce, Bureau of Mines, Rare and Precious Metals Experiment Station, Reno, Nevada".

The addressee, Edward Wigglesworth (1885-1945), a Ph.D graduate of Harvard University, was a geologist, mineralogist and Director of the New England Museum of Natural History in Boston. He was later president of the Gemological Institute of America, New England Center in Boston and taught courses there. He was a certified Gemologist and compiled a dictionary of gems and gemology.
