"K.k. priv. Messingfabrik in Reichraming" printed return address (Imperial Royal Brass Factory in Reichraming)

The first stamps of the short-lived "Republic of German-Austria" (1918–1919) were stamps of the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy overprinted "Deutschösterreich" (German Austria), as shown in the overprinted 5 heller green stamp on this cover.

The proposed merger of Austria with Germany (Weimar Republic) was vetoed by the Allied victors in the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (10 September 1919) under Article 88, which prohibited economic or political union. The treaty also required the country to change its name from the "Republic of German-Austria" to the "Republic of Austria" (Republik Österreich), i.e., the First Republic, a name that persists to this day.

Reichraming is a municipality in the district of Steyr-Land in the Austrian state of Upper Austria.

Rýmařov (German: Römerstadt) is a town in the Bruntál District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic.
